DESCRIPTION: Antique long guns - Amos S. Bisbing, Over Under Swivel Breech percussion Long Rifle, circa 1865, .43 caliber rifled barrel and .45 caliber smooth bore barrel, German silver trigger guard with engraved floral details, double set triggers with a forward trigger that operates the swivel breech, steel lock plate with floral engraved detail and the letters L.M, right side engraved with the name "L. Hettinger" (the original owner), straight steel tang with engraved flourishes, American walnut stock with cheek rest and carved details as well as inset German silver accents and hinged patch box, German silver curved moon butt plate, 37 inch octagonal barrels with fixed front German silver blade sights, top of each barrel marked "A.S. Bisbing, Maker." A truly impressive and incredibly rare piece of American firearms history; swivel breech firearms don't come up for auction often. Rifle measures 52.5 inches in length and weighs approximately 10 pounds; includes a soft protective gun case. This gun's original owner, a one Levi M. Hettinger, was a private in the 167th Pennsylvania Drafted Militia; Levi mustered out in August of 1863 and likely bought this soon after.
CONDITION: Good action with double set triggers, good swivel action, ramrod missing end cap; fine overall cosmetic condition, fine bore with ample oxidation, metal surfaces with ample surface spotting, pitting and finish loss, small dings and fine scratches are scattered about the steelwork; fine walnut stock with numerous dings and scrapes as well as a small crack near the tang and side plate, lead solder repair to the brass cap on the ramrod cover; trigger guard with small dings and scratches from years of use.
